The New York Times mag has a slide show of amazing color photographs of everyday life from the 1930s and 40s. It's mind-boggling to those of us who only know that time from black-and-white photos to think that it actually happened in color. You have to keep reminding yourself that you're really looking at 1940.
Even more amazing is a Library of Congress exhibit from last year, of color photos taken of czarist Russia in the 1910s. The photographer invented his own camera and used a special process to make the color images.
